Case Study: Modern extension to a house in Chard, Somerset
The Project
When Mr and Mrs Cleaver set out to extend their home in Chard, their vision was to create a space filled with natural light where they could enjoy the garden all year round. The extension needed to feel bright, modern, and practical in all seasons.
Bifold Doors
At the heart of the design is a three-leaf Smart Visofold 1000 bifold door. This gives the couple the flexibility to fully open the room to the garden in summer, while providing warmth and security during the cooler months.
Aluminium Windows
Running down the entire length of the extension, we installed large Smart Alitherm 400 aluminium windows. To keep the room feeling fresh, each window includes top-hung openers, allowing for excellent cross-flow ventilation.
Rooflights
To make sure even the furthest corners of the room stayed bright, two Opal flat rooflights were added. These flood the space with daylight, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere at any time of day.
The Finish
All products were supplied in a contemporary anthracite grey, tying the design together with a sleek, modern aesthetic.
The Result
The finished extension has transformed the Cleavers’ home in Chard into a light-filled and versatile space, perfect for relaxing, entertaining, and enjoying their garden views in comfort — whatever the weather.
