Case Study: Barn Conversion Glazing Project in Dorchester

Barn Conversion Glazing Project in Dorchester
Tucked away just outside Dorchester, this beautiful barn conversion balances heritage charm with sleek modern living. The building itself dates back hundreds of years, and the customer was keen to retain its original character while creating a light, contemporary home.
The Glazing
All of the glazing for this project was supplied by Origin, ensuring premium quality and flawless performance throughout. The installation included:
-
OS44 Sliding Doors – chosen for the bedrooms, where their slim sightlines maximise light and the integrated night latch allows secure ventilation overnight.
-
OW80 Windows – robust and thermally efficient, blending seamlessly into the traditional stonework.
-
OB49 Bifold & French Doors – with ultra-slim frames, these bring openness and fluidity to the living spaces.
One standout feature is the single piece of glass above the bifold doors, measuring over 3 metres wide. This required a crane lift for glazing – a dramatic moment on site that added to the sense of scale and precision on this project.

The Finishes
The customer selected RAL 7030 Matt – a soft, champagne-like tone that perfectly complements the natural stone of the barn. All silicone was carefully colour-matched for a flawless finish.
Threshold heights were particularly important, so we worked closely with the builder to achieve a level threshold in line with the internal flooring, ensuring seamless transitions between indoors and outdoors.
To complete the look, specially made powder-coated trims were installed to conceal steel lintels, tying the downstairs and upstairs glazing together beautifully. Stainless steel handles were used throughout for durability and style.

The Result
The result is a barn that retains its timeless character while being filled with light, space and modern comfort. The combination of Origin’s precision-engineered glazing and carefully considered detailing makes this a project that would not look out of place on Grand Designs.
We can’t wait to revisit once the interiors and landscaping are finished – this will truly be a home to admire for years to come.
